It is reported that Prime Minister Faretta Thavisin of Thailand has discussed the idea of launching a Schengen-style area with representatives from Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam in recent months. These six countries account for 70 million foreign tourists each year, with more than half coming from Thailand and Malaysia. The introduction of a shared visa system between these countries would increase the average tourist spending per person.
